A heavy German sword, circa 1580 Double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section. The ricasso is stamped with the mark "S" below a crown on both sides and engraved "CAINO", each fuller bears the inscription "E H R E R E H R". Chiselled iron knuckle-bow hilt with original, spiral iron wire winding, Turk's heads and pointed oval pommel of tapering profile. Beautifully preserved sword with all parts original.
