Looking NW at C7th nave & chancel of Escomb Saxon (Anglian) church built of reused stones brought from Binchester Roman fort. Large stones set alternatively horizontally & vertically form 'megalithic quoining' at the corners. The small round-headed windows & sundial on the S wall are original features, the porch & lancet windows Medieval additions. The church displays Irish influence in its building style and 'Celtic' circular churchyard.
