. American engineer and railroad journal . er hour from feed water at 100 (legs. to steam at711 lbs. pressure, and they are designed for 50 per cent, over-load rapacity. The boilers are carried upon wrought iron supports, entirelyindependent of the brick work, and expansion is carefully pro-vided for to insure air-tight settings. The details of the set-tings, and the provision for the superheater tubes, are shown, nections for by-passing, so that the boilers may deliver satu-rated steam, if desired. The superheater fittings are of extraheavy cast iron, of special mixture for this service.

The super-heaters are designed to raise the temperature of steam de-livered from each boiler, at its rated pree lbs. persq. in., to 550 degs. F.; this provides that the temperature bemeasured at points in the main steam header 5 ft. beyond theboiler, and with the turns e gases leaving the boiler at notover 600 degs. F.
