Megatherium. Artwork of a group of Megatherium (Megatherium americanum), an extinct species of giant sloth. Megatherium was about the size of an elephant, and inhabited the shrubby savannas of America. The genus evolved several million years ago, but is thought to have become extinct as recently as 12,000 years ago. Megatherium was a herbivore with huge claws and was able to stand on it's hind legs.
