Balloon Launch, ca 1870
The Balloon “Reliance” was owned by an English balloonist by the name of Mr. Baker and it made a number of very public ascensions in England and Ireland during the 1870’s and early 1880’s. It was from the gondola of the Balloon Reliance that the very first aerial photographs were taken by British photographer Cecil Shadbolt in 1882 (or 1883).
