A Kubasaki High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet models the uniform worn by the Marines who fought in the World War II during a Marine Corps birthday uniform pageant Nov. 8 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. Marines fought valiantly throughout the Pacific from defense of Wake Island to the Jungle of Guadalcanal. Marines such as Gunnery Sgt. John Basilone and Master Gunnery Sgt. Lou Diamond displayed a courageous fighting spirit that made uncommon valor a common virtue throughout the war.
