State Historian. 19 The regiment was mustered in the United States service andbecame in accordance with General Orders No. 11, A. G. O., Y., series 1898, the First Regiment, Infantry, New YorkVols. May 20th, 1898, and remained at Camp Black until June11th, 1898. On the Cth of June, Colors were presented to the regiment byMr. Talbot Olyphant, representing the society of The Sons ofthe Revolution : in presence of the Command and of a largeassemblage of citizens. The colors were formally accepted byColonel Barber with appropriate ceremonies. Special Orders, No. 122, Headquarters, Department of the June 7th, 1898, assigned the regiment to the followingstations: The Colonel, headquarters and two companies to FortColumbus, New York Harbor; the Lieut-Colonel, a Major and fivecompanies to Fort Hamilton, and a Major and five com
