FRANCIS HENRY RICHARDS, mechan-ician, engineer and inventor of Hartford and NewYork City, with residence in the former city, is anative of the town of New Hartford, Litchfield coun-ty, Conn., a county from which have gone out intothe world many men who have achieved distinctionand fame. Born Oct. 20, 1850, Mr. Richards is the son ofHenry and Maria (Whiting) Richards, and is ofnoble lineage. On his fathers side he is a descend-ant in the ninth generation from (I) Thomas Rich-ards, who was at Hartford in about 1637, and whosename is given in the Memorial History of HartfordCounty, edited by the late Dr. Trumbull, as oneof the original proprietors of Hartford in ; »ur subjects line of descent from this first Ameri-can ancestor is through John.
