Tammy, a 252-lb Loggerhead Turtle, was spotted by members of the 154-foot Coast Guard Cutter Lawrence Lawson approximately 3-miles off Cape Henlopen, Delaware, Monday, June 12, 2017. Crewmembers noted the turtle was covered in growth and unable to dive. After bringing scientists from Sea Turtle Recovery and Marine Education, Research & Rehabilitation Institute aboard, crewmembers used ingenuity and a cargo net to bring the mature female turtle into the ship's stern notch, and then given aid and an assessment by scientists.
