The effect of a single plant is really beautiful, with its very symmetrical growth, its dark green leaves and gold-colored blos- soms. The flowers are from 3 to 4 in. in diameter, as double, as any double Dahlia and covering the plant from the ground to the top. It is unsur- passed as a cut flower, .•it season when most flowers wilt and fade in a few hours, lasting fully a week or more. It is one of the most desirable plants, and should be in every collection. It should have a sunny position and rich soil, 25 cts. Helianthus Multiflorus. HOLLYHOCKS. Pew hardy plants combine as many good qualities, lend themselves as readi- ly to varied uses, or as free from disease as the Hollyhocks. For planting rows or groups on the lawn, or for interspers- ing among shrubbery, they are invalu- able. The flowers, which are as elegant in shape as a Camelia, form perfect rosettes of most lovely shades. It is not surpris- ing that this old favorite should again become popular; for by careful selection the flowers have been so much improved that they are marvels of beauty and elegance. The Hollyhock requires a rich, deep soil, well drained, and will repay in quantity and elegance of bloom any extra care.
