Nerve ganglion, light micrograph

Light micrograph of a section through a cluster of neuron (nerve) cell bodies (dark pink) within a sympathetic (autonomic) ganglion. The multipolar neurons (red circles) are surrounded by mantle cells. Sympathetic ganglia lie outside of the central nervous system and ac as relay stations between neurons. Multipolar neurons amplify signals as they take input from one cell and relay it to many cells. Light microscope, bright field, magnification 400:1 (when long side 15cm)
