Ischaemia, coloured angiogram. Front view of ischaemia (lack of blood flow) in the left shoulder of a 21 year old patient. There are fewer blood vessels visible compared to normal, which is due to a blocked left axillary artery resulting from a road traffic accident. The blockage may be due to a thrombus (blood clot) or embolism (air bubble or loose blood clot). An angiogram is an X-ray technique that uses a contrast dye to highlight blood vessels.
