James Walker, a maintenance control specialist assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 167, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 162 (Reinforced), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit reads the history of HMLA 167 prior to celebrating their 50th anniversary with a cake cutting ceremony aboard the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD 21) April 1, 2018. HMLA 167, since its commissioning at the Marble Mountain Air Facility in the Republic of Vietnam, has participated in every major conflict from Vietnam to operations throughout Europe and the Middle East and exercised the full spectrum of operations from humanitarian assistance to combat operations. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
