The Decameron is a 1971 film written and directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini, based on the homonymous work by Giovanni Boccaccio. It is the first episode of the so-called "Trilogy of Life", continued with The Canterbury Tales (1972) and completed by The Flower of the Arabian Nights (1974). He had several problems with the censorship which seized and released the film and also opened a trial, which in the end saw the defendants (including the director himself) found not guilty. In Germany and most of Europe, however, the film was notable success and won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival
