Two of the cylindrical stone columns at the base of the original 7 th century Saxon tower. Founded by Benedict Biscop in 674. The rest dates from 13 th and 14 th centuries. Contains early stained glass from 7 th and 8 th centuries. Attended by Bede before he moved to Jarrow.
