Orchid flowers (Cyrtopodium andersonii). Each of the flowers has a yellow petal. This is the lip, a specialised structure that attracts pollinators and provides them with a landing platform. The Cyrtopodium orchids are found in tropical South America. This specimen is from Guyana. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
