Conway carried the apple of discord intothe boarding-house of old Bill Redfield, who, determined tohave a fight rather than yield, wrought his partisans up tofighting-pitch, and would no doubt have shortly broughton a bloody conflict had not law-abiding citizens interferedwith counsels of submission. Happily, therefore, bloodshedwas avoided, and Deerfield got her gun back, but found after-ward that it required much vigilance and alertness to keep itfrom the hands of the raiders from Conway and Photo, by C.
