JANJANBUREH, THE GAMBIA (18/01/2019) - Children run away from a Sisal (rice sack) Kankurang, it is a friendly game for the children to get as close as they can to the Kankurang without being chastised. The Janjanbureh Kankurang Festival is part of joint efforts by the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa and the Gambian Youth Empowerment Project to boost tourism in Janjanbureh. By preserving and celebrating the cultural heritage of the Kankurang, it is creating new economic opportunities for young Gambians in the form of increased tourism.
