It is used for planing edges and narrow stock, and piecesnot too large can be trued and squared on it. The wood is held againstthe gauge and passed over the tableby hand so that the revolvingcutters (which are similar to thoseof the large planers) plane theunder side of the wood. Theknives are more or less exposed,and great care must be used. Thejointer is often used to make glue-joints. It must be kept carefullyadjusted for accurate work.
