The sculpture has been carved in the Italian white marble of Carrara. The statues represent the Oceanides, or sea nymphs of Greek mythology. The name of the sculptor is unknown but they are believed to come from the Roman studio of Orazio Andreoni. The sculptures were brought to the UK by Whitaker Wright.
