BIRMINGHAM, England, 3 September 2013 - Malala Yousafzai, born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, the largest city in the Swat Valley in what is now the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. The educational activist attended the opening ceremony for the Library of Birmingham with her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai. Malala, who was shot by the Taliban in Pakistan in October 2012 for promoting girls' right to education, has been living in Birmingham with her family since being flown from Pakistan for emergency treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
