This is a portrait of the constellation of Auriga the Charioteer, with exposures and processing to bring out the bright and faint nebulosity within the constellation, as well as show its prominent star clusters. At top right is the bright yellow star Capella. At left is the trio (L to R) of M37, M36 and M38, the three Messier star clusters in Auriga. Below M36 and M38 is the complex of bright emission nebulas (L to R) of IC 417, IC 410 and IC 405, the latter the largest and also known as the Flaming Star Nebula. The small round nebula above M36 and M38 is Sharpless 2-235, with larger and fainter Sh2-232 above it. This is a stack of 30 x 2-minute exposures with the rare Samyang RF85mm lens stopped down to , on the Canon EOS Ra camera at ISO 800. The lens was equipped with a 77mm Nisi Clear Night broadband light pollution reduction filter which helps improve contrast and reduce sky gradients. The camera was on the Star Adventurer 2i tracker for tracked but unguided exposures over 60 minutes. Taken from home on a very clear night November 18, 2023. All frames stacked, registered and processed in Photoshop, with luminosity masks and filters applied to bring out the fainter nebulosity and background discolouration due to absorbing dust.
