Feats of engineering skill and daring that werelittle dreamed of fifty years ago, when the first transcontinental line wasprojected to the coast, marked the progress of its construction. The extension is approximately 1,400 miles in length. It connectswith the older portion of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul at Mobridge,S. D., and runs through South and North Dakota, Montana, Idaho andWashington to the cities of Seattle and Tacoma. Building of the exten-sion was begun on April 2, 1906,
