A blood-pressure cuffis used as a tourniquet on the donors arm. 534 Diseases and Injuries of the Heart and Vessels The median cephalic or basilic veins of both patient and donor are carefullyexposed for a distance of 3 inches under proper aseptic technic, in the caseof the donor the upper end of the vein, i. e., the portion nearest the heart maybe ligated. A second ligature is placed around the lower end of the exposedvein but not tied. Fine silk or double 00 plain catgut may be used. In like manner, two ligatures are placed on the recipients vein but in thiscase the lower ligature is tied.
