Fort St Angelo was the keystone of the fortifications protecting Malta's Grand Harbour when Malta was ruled by the Knights of St John of Jerusalem. The fort played an important role in the defence of the island against the Ottomans during the Great Siege of 1565. To this day Fort St Angelo remains a seat of the Knights of St John.
