. Essex county, , illustrated . what is now known as The Park, marched our gallant soldier boys. It wouldgreatly please the citizens of Roseville to have the memory ofthis event perpetuated by naming the new North Seventh The Frelinghuysen School. The old school still exists and is in use. In the rear of thenew building on Sixth Street you can visit it any day, and seemany dear little bright-faced children there, struggling to climbthe hill of knowledge, but so easily and gradually that a greet-ing of smiles and happy voices will be oflered. But this build-ing is soon to be a thing of the past, as ils walls will not stretchand as many child-ren are found onNorth SeventhStreet alone as thewhole ward origin-ally contained. The new build-ing was opened inSeptember, 1894,and was the causeof great rejoicingto the citizens ofthe nothern portionof Roseville, as thegrammar schoolchildren had beenobliged to walknearly a mile, much exposed toall kinds ofweather, to attend g. f. brandenbukgh, school 90 ESSEX COrXTV. X. ILLUSTRATED. South Eighth Street School, then the only gram-mar school in the ward. This structure givesmuch pleasure, but the rapid growth of this partthe city makes more room imperative, and amuch larger building with an assembly hall ishoped for. The present building is so arranged, that when such celebrations as the school is re-quired to hold are in progress, but few of thechildren can see or hear what is going on. This school, having obtained the sympathyand co-operation of the parents and citizens, with its attractive and intelligent children, andunder the efficient management of a principal, able, kind and just, and pleasant teachers, willcontinue to be a credit, pride and honor to ourcity. Present corps of teachers : 7 honias T. ; Grammar Department—Elizabeth , Vice-Principal; Elizabeth Wyckoff, FirstAssistant ; Kate Z. Gaston and Annie S. BurgyesAssistants. Primary Department—Mary ,
