Born in Poitiers in 1829, Perlat worked in a candle factory in La Varenne (commune of Saint-Benoit) from 1852 to 1858 before moving to Poitiers and buying a bookstore where he offered photographic He was gradually established as official photographer of the city of Poitiers where he spent his career between 1859 and 1898. In 1863, Perlat participated in the 5th exhibition of the French Society of Photography, where he presented portraits and landscapes. He also obtained a bronze medal at the’Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1889 for his works and his “automatic easel Perlat”. Among his notable works are the’album “Alphonse Le Touze de Longuemar, Poitiers Historical Album : a look at the monuments of the ancient capital of Poitou’, photographs of’Alfred Perlat” (Poitiers, A. Oudin, 1884) and “Original drawings of the great masters : reproductions in phototypy to serve as a guide in the study of various ancient and modern schools” (Poitiers, Oudin, 1884). The work of’Alfred Perlat is preserved in the Mediatheque of Poitiers, including views of the city and its monuments, such as the Chapel of Saint-Joseph in La Chapelle-Largeau and the Pont de Rochereuil.
