The pastilles should be compared with the scale or Teinte B by the light of a match, a candle, a benzine lamp, or otherartificial light of slight actinic power. The distance between the pastillesand the glass wall of the tube should never be less than 2 cm., to preventtheir being discoloured by the heat of the tube. The pastilles are mostaccurate when used with tubes of medium penetrating power.
