Limpets (Patella vulgaris) on bare rock with seaweed growing on their shells.
Limpets feed by grazing on algae which grows on the rocks on which they live The scrape the algae off the rock using a rough ribbon like tongue called a radula This grazing can result in the only visible algae present being located on the shells of the limpets themselves as these are the only places not grazed.
