Almere condo condominium building Silverline by Claus en Kaan and The Wave by Rene Van Zuuk on the waterfront of Weerwater lake.

Modern architecture in Dutch New Town Almere, Almere-Stad district. To the left: Condo building Silverline by architects Claus en Kaan and to the right condo building The Wave by architect Rene Van Zuuk. The form of Silverline: the middle floors of an apartment block are harder to sell, so the lower five and upper seven storeys were given greater volume than the middle four. The result is a robust building with aluminium cladding which sparkles on bright days and which flames in the light of the setting sun. The wave: the scaly facades of this expressive design are made up of zinc-clad flat panels. The dwellings are arranged in 6 storeys, and appear to slide out of the facade like partly open matchboxes. The outward bulge is strongest on the side facing the water, and it casts a wave-shaped shadow on the facade surface. Van Zuuk’s buildings usually have a feather-light appearance, but the substantial mass of this building unequivocally marks the boundary of land and water.
