The skull is characterised by its dense and solid structure,as well as by its straightness, the shortness of the facial portion, andthe very small size of the cheek-teeth. Height at shoulder, from about36 to 41 inches ; weight, 1 15 lbs. This antelope, first described by the late Sir Victor Brooke,is in the habit of raising itself on its hind-legs when browsing, and GERENUK 279 is thus enabled to reach boughs at a very considerable distance abovethe groun
