Ill-health prompted him at the age of twenty-three years to take up the study of medicine, which he did withDr. |. 11. Skinner of Plainville; attended lectures at Fairfield, andgraduated at Geneva in 1838. Until 1876 he practiced at Plainville,adopting homoeopathy in 1851. He was prominent in the militia; waspostmaster from L849 to 1853, was again appointed in 1863 and held the. WILLIAM WILSON, THE TOWN OF LYSANDER. :;,l office at his death March 22, 1883. John was a brother of Rulef and aleading- farmer. Abram Daily settled here in 1815, as also did JohnBuck, who was an early merchant many years and postmaster. MarvinAdams located in 1815 south of the village, and in that vicinity JohnBratt settled in 1816. A post-office was established here in 1S21 and aweekly mail was received from Camillus, going on to Lysander. Theoffice was kept at first a mile and a half south of Plainville, with a postmaster. Lyman Norton was an early merchant andpostmaster succeeding Dr. Sehencks first term; he engaged also incontracting and acquired wealth, and was member of Assemblvin left descendants in this town and elsewhere. When William Wilson, the pioneer at Plainville, made his settlementin 1806, he brought with him a son of the same name who was then sixyears old. He grew to manhood, was twice married and
