Female yew tree flower. Light micrograph of a longitudinal section through a female flower of the yew tree (Taxus baccata). The central axis is surrounded by bracts (curled lines) and at the top is the ovule (upper centre, whitish oval). The ovule is surrounded by three integuments: the outer integument of thin flattened cells (light brown); the middle integument of large stony cells (deep red-brown); and the inner, thickest, integument of small cells (whitish pink). The central oval (whitish-pink) is the nucellus. Magnification: x46 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
