Illuminatied old fashioned advertising for Cinema High End 54 at art centre Tacheles on Oranienburger Strasse. Berlin, Mitte, 2005. --- No releases available. --- Info: The Kunsthaus Tacheles is an art center and nightclub that started in the eastern part after the Berlin Wall came down. The building itself (in Oranienburger Strasse in the district known as Mitte) was the entrance of the Friedrichstadt-Passage, a huge shopping mall built in 1907. The Tacheles had been occupied by a number of international artists, performers and musicians before becoming an art centre with a cafe, cinema, performance space, workshops and exhibition space. The exterior of the building was damaged from shelling and never properly repaired. Huge, colorful graffiti-style murals are painted on the exterior walls, and in the interior, modern art sculptures are featured. Because of its success and the ruin-like appearance the Tacheles became very well known on a national and international scale and is a must to see.
