The British Army in North Africa 1942 A knocked-out Churchill III among abandoned Italian M13/40 tanks at El Alamein, 2 November 1942. The Churchill was one of six rushed to the front line and placed under control of 7th Motor Brigade, 1st Armoured Division, in time for Montgomery's offensive at El Alamein. The group was named Kingforce after its commander, Major Norris King MC.
