This is a close-up of the Orange Toadfish (Opsanus beta), a scary-looking marine creature that was photographed through the glass wall of an aquarium. Also known as the Gulf Toadfish, this carnivorous species is commonly found in the Gulf of Mexico and the western Atlantic Ocean from Florida to the Bahamas. These predator fish make their homes in shallow waters in coastal bays and lagoons under rocks on grassy sea beds. They are not active swimmers and will lie motionless for hours waiting for prey to come by.
