The Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II is being celebrated in 2022 in the Commonwealth of Nations to mark the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952. The celebration plans were formally unveiled in full by Buckingham Palace on 10 January 2022. In the United Kingdom, there was an extra bank holiday on 3 June, and the usual Spring bank holiday was moved from the end of May to 2 June, to create a four-day Jubilee bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June. The British government has promised a "once-in-a-generation show" that will "mix the best of British ceremonial splendor and pageantry with cutting-edge artistic and technological displays". This is the first time that any British monarch has celebrated a platinum jubilee. At the time of the Jubilee, Elizabeth II was the third-longest reigning verified sovereign monarch in history. Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, KG, GCVO, CD, ADC (Edward Antony Richard Louis; born 10 March 1964)[2] is a member of the British royal family. He is the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Edward is 14th in line of succession to the British throne. Born at Buckingham Palace, Edward studied at Heatherdown School and earned his A-levels at Gordonstoun before spending a part of his gap year teaching in New Zealand. He studied at Jesus College, Cambridge and graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. After a brief stint in the Royal Marines, Edward worked as a theatre production assistant at the Really Useful Theatre Company before assisting in television production. He later formed his own company, Ardent Productions. Edward stepped down from the company in 2002 to begin full-time duties as a working member of the royal family, and undertakes engagements on behalf of the Queen.
