A treatise on concrete, plain and reinforced : materials, construction, and design of concrete and reinforced concrete; 2nd ed. . —Griffin Mill. (See p. 716) CEMENT MANUFACTURE 717 The cement or stone is so finely powdered that, held in suspension bythe moving air, it passes through a cylindrical screen above the roll, andfalls through slots in the circumference of the pan into the hopper below, tobe carried off by a conveyor. The screen in mills for grinding clinker is 30to 32 mesh to the Hnear inch, but as it is placed vertically, it lets throughonly cement of such fineness that 75 to 80% of it will pass a 20G-mesh Kent pulverizer, shown in Fig. 235, which is used in a few plants,. —Kent Mill (See p. 717-) consists essentially of an upright circular case containing within it three rollssurrounded by a revolving ring. The material is ground by passing be-tween the internal circumference of this ring and the rolls, which arepressed against it by sjjrings. The Fuller-Lehigh mill, illustrated in Fig. 236, has come to the front dur-ing the past few years as a fine grinder for grinding coal, raw materialand clinker. The material to be reduced is fed to the mill from an overheadbin by means of a feeder mounted on top of the mill. This feeder is drivendirect from the mill shaft by a belt running on a pair of three-step cones, which permits the operator to accommodate the amount of material enter-ing the mill to the nature of the material being pulverized. The grinding is done by means of four unattached steel balls 12 inchesin diameter, which are propelled by four equidistant horizontal arms or A TREATISE OX CONCRETE pushers radiating from a vertical centra
