From Windsor’s well lit Pescod (aka shopping street), Windsor castle dominates the skyline, For the Christmas season, images

Windsor Castle to be lit up for Christmas Regal designs will be projected onto Windsor Castle as part of this year's Christmas light display. Projections will illuminate one of the towers on Windsor Castle Wall from Saturday 15 November, when the town's lights are officially switched on, until January 6, when they are turned off. Among the images that will appear on the tower is detail from one of the castle's doors in red and the colourful stain glass windows from St George Chapel. The Royal Borough has a bright history of creative lighting schemes in the town centre including a town-wide illumination display to mark the start of the Cultural Olympiad in 2008. For this project the Royal Borough is working with Ross Ashton from Projection Studio who worked on an internationally acclaimed scheme for LOCOG during the Olympics in 2012, which saw three of the castle's towers on Thames Street illuminated. The display attracted more than 85,000 visitors. Cllr George Bathurst, chairman of Windsor and Eton Town Partnership and Royal Borough cabinet member, said: "We have a growing tradition of presenting projects such as this in conjunction with Windsor Castle and these are of great benefit to the town centre and the community we serve. "This is the first time that the external wall of the castle is being used as part of the Christmas illuminations for the town, and we would like to extend our thanks to the Royal Collection and HM The Queen for their support in allowing us to do this. "We believe this will be an exciting Christmas scheme for the castle, that the town and residents will be proud of and one which will increase visitors. "This is a great addition to the Christmas lights display in Windsor and one that will enhance the festive feeling in the town for residents." It is hoped the illuminated tower will become a regular feature of the Christmas lights programme. Money for the project has come from £100,000 allocated by the Royal Borough
