For the radi-ating surface a returnbend coil may beused of 114-inch length of coilmay be about 3 feet6 inches, eight to tenpipes in height, butthe size of the roomand the capacity ofthe water back must determine this. The flow and return pipemay be of %-inch pipe, if the coil is not unusually far from theboiler. The use of plain or galvanized iron pipe is a matter whichmay be determined from experience when considering the require-ments of the case. So far as heating the air is concerned, plainpipe is more desirable than galvanized pipe, but the latter pipe ispresumed to be less liable to produce rust in the water for domes-tic purposes. There is no objection to the use of a radiator if pre-. Fig. 111. Radiator Connected to Supply Systemand Extended Heating Surface at Water Back. 148 HOT WATER SUPPLY. ferred. When these are used on the same floor as the boiler, thewall pattern should be selected so that the return connection maybe kept above the level of the water front. Better service willresult when this is done. Co/dfo Boiler-^ Hot-^ Hifchon
