This image shows Langeley's aeroplane. The American Samuel P. Langeley almost succeeded in building an airplane before the Wright brothers. In 1887 Langeley became the third secretary of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, Langeley had worked on an aerodrome (unmanned) but had much difficult. Langeley kept making adjustments, and his fifth design of the aerodrome (also aeroplane) was successful and flew. But he did not manage to build a plane that carried human. After his 1903 aeroplane failed, he never tried again.
