They are also connected to the citymains, so that if the supply of feed-water falls below a prede-termined amount the connections to the city mains are auto-matically opened, thus preventing any likelihood of shortage. For supplying water under pressure to the step bearings ofthe turbines there are three steam-driven pumps.
