A Japanese mempo, Edo/Meiji period Resseiho type iron mempo from the second half of the Edo period. On the underside of the chin the inscription "Kashu (no) ju Munetoshi saku". During the later Meiji period eye and brow guards were added. Sabinuri lacquer finish on the outside, the red lacquer on the inside missing.
