Symptoms.—The symptoms are not characteristic, and con-sist of a sensation of a foreign body; perhaps alternate nasalobstruction, owing to mobility of the polypi; and interferencewith deglutition and articulation. Inspection reveals a long,teat-like mass extending from above. It is nearly the color ofthe uvula, but usually somewhat duller. Palpation detects anelastic, movable mass. The prognosis is good. Treatment—Relief must be mechanical. Jarvis or Sajouscurved-tipped snare is usually sufficient, but care must be exer-cised that the wire do not break; in one casein which this repeatedly occurred, I severedthe growth with a pair of curved scissors, nothaving a galvano-cautery at hand. At times forceps (see Adenoid Vegeta-tions of the Vault of the Pharynx) are thebest instruments to Fig. 77.—Exchox-DROMA. Actual size.(From a photograph.) ENCHONDROMATA. Five cases of this rare neoplasm have beenreported. In some of these external opera-tions were performed; but in my patient (seeHahnemannian Monthly^ June, 1891) thealmost white growth was removed by curvedpost-nasal forceps, leaving no trace of itspedicle, which was adherent to the upper rim of the rightchoana. The prognosis is good and the treatment chieflymechanical. MALIGNANT TUMORS. Sarcomata and carcinomata of the naso-pharynx are occasion obstruction and often pain, haemorrhage, andfetid discharge. The surrounding tissues are frequently invaded, impairing the function of the affected part. The cervical glandsmay enlarge in both classes, but this change occurs earlier incarcinoma. Pain usually extends to the ears. A broad-based,easily-bleeding, soft, ulcerating tumor in a person over 30 years MALIGNANT TUMORS. 287 of age
