Loyal-ist was the first Rector of Kingstonfrom 1785 toi8n. He was succeededby his son the Very Rev. G. OKillStuart, who was rector for over fiftyyears. Beneath the Nave of theCathedral lies the body of one of themost eminent of the Governors Generalof Canada, Lord Sydenham, who diedin Kingston, Sept. 20th, 1841. TheVery Rev. Buxton Smith, D .D., Rectorof Kingston and Deanery of Ontariowas appointed Rector in 1891 and Deanin 1893., and is assisted by the Rev. Starr, M. QUEENS UNIVERSITY Kingstons prominence, as an educational centre, is largely due to the presence of Queens University. Its th msnn Is of illusfi iui gradultesfill honoredpositions in Canada and the United States. On March 7. 1S42, Queens was opened in modest style ill this titv, under the principalship of Prof. Liddell. Afterseveral changes the College was at last permanently located on Old Ontarios Strand in tlie City of Kingston. Here, ever since, it has been expanding, untilnow the trustees have decided to erect additional buildings at a cost of $150,000. Kingston has shown its appreciation of Queens by the re :ent gift of a newbuilding to the University. Its growth has been steady, until now it has a staff of thirty professors and as many lecturers and tutors. The number of studentsis over 700, and when the new editions are erected there will be accommodation for 1500. The faculties
