Lapis lazuli woman. Egypt's closest known source of lapis lazuli is Afghanistan and the material was therefore highly-prized. The head and body of this statuette were made separately and pegged together. The eyes are hollowed for inlay. The unique features may suggest that the piece is not of Egyptian origin. From the temple at Hierakonpolis, Eatly Dynastic about 3300-3000 BC.
