There was a small amount of debris in these joints which wasattributed to the reverse movement of traffic. The joint inspected in section 10 (Fig. 17), having a brush coat of Farbertite on therail and bars, was in poor condition. The compound had formed a hard coating whichhad flaked off. This compound had failed completely and is not suitable for use ontrack joints. General Remarks In all of the test sections the bolt threads were greased initially, and they were wellpreserved after two years of service.
