Portico of the Petronii, Thuburbo Majus, Tunisia. The Roman town of Thuburbo Majus was founded as a veterans' settlement in 27 BC. The town thrived and grew rapidly after being declared a municipality by the Emperor Hadrian when he visited in the 2nd century. The Palaestra Petronii was built as a gymnasium in 225.
