JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- An Air Force 3rd Wing F-22 Raptor based here takes off while an EA 18 G Growler from Carrier Strike Group 1, based out of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington, taxis out to takeoff position on the first day of Exercise Northern Edge 17. Northern Edge is a biennial joint training exercise involving approximately 6,000 personnel, that dates to 1975.
