View of the Stocks Market, London, oil on canvas painting by Joseph Nickolls, before 1738
The Stocks Market stood from 1282-1737 and was named after the only fixed pair of stocks in the city which were used to punish offenders. It was located on what now is the site of the modern day Mansion House and the Bank of England in London. The statue is King Charles II on horseback trampling over Oliver Cromwell.
